No, you do not have to book Volunteer Camping to be a volunteer with SaTyR, but we do strongly recommend to be a part of the community, by being in our basecamp in Volunteer Camping. Remember to bring your own tent! 

To secure a spot in Volunteer Camping it is important that you as quickly as possible register for Volunteer Camping on People (https://people-vol.roskilde-festival.dk/) – it is open from the 1th of May. Volunteer Camping is in demand, and only has space for 15.000 – and the amount of volunteers are around 35.000, so it is recommended to be ready to register for Volunteer Camping when the booking opens.

If you book Volunteer Camping and end up not using it, Roskilde Festival will give you a 500 DKK fine, because in that case, you will have taken a spot, someone else could have used.

It is possible to cancel a booking in Volunteer Camping until the 20 th of June, if you regret your booking.

If you choose not to book Volunteer Camping, you will be permitted to be in Volunteer Camping during and between your working hours, but you cannotsleep in Volunteer Camping.

Yes you can book a spot in Volunteer Camping and use it until the festival’s camping areas open. It would make us happy though, if you stayed in the volunteer camp and made our community grow! 

Be aware, that if you want to move from Volunteer Camping to the ordinary camping areas, you cannot place your tent in the ordinary camping area before it is officially open. That means that you can move when the last hour slot is over. 

You need to have 4 shifts, which last for 8 hours each. Therefore you will work for 32 hours in total. The shifts can be before, under and after the music-days. The first shift begins the 20 th. of June at 7.00, which is a week before the festival officially opens. The last shift ends the 7 th. of July at 15.00, which is two days after the music-days.

When you are on shift, there will be the following jobs:

• Gate host
• Tidy team
• Supervisor
• Toilet Maintenance Team (Temporary)

Gate host

As a gate host, you will make sure that everyone gets their wristband scanned when they enter Volunteer Camping. Only people who have valid access to Volunteer Camping may enter. Before the shift starts you will be informed of the valid access signs, and how you are to act if you are in doubt.

A supervisor will always be on shift in case questions arise and in situations that require a person with authority. 

Our responsibility is to guard the 2 gates, which each need 2 gate hosts at all times. During some periods of the festival, one of the gates (23A) needs 3 gate hosts. Guide

Tidy team

When you are on shift on the Tidy team, you primarily have to be available to the other volunteers, whom each needs a 30 minute break during their shifts. Use the rest of the time to chill and cook for the working volunteers. Furthermore you have to keep the basecamp tidy. At all times, there will be 2 people on the break team. 

Supervisor

We need 13 trained Supervisors on our team. The Supervisors will be trained on one of the possible traningsdays which will be held in may. The training will be held in Roskilde. 

The Supervisor have to gather the other volunteers, who is about to start work, and brief them about their vests, radios, scanning wristbands and breaks. The Supervisors have to be ready to answer questions and handle possible confusion, at the gates, which we guard. 

Supervisors can always contact the team-leaders, if they are faced with a problem they cannot solve. As a thank you for your hard work, the Supervisors receive free bar in the Basecamp.

Toilet Maintenance Team

As a temporary measure, this team has been assigned responsibility for maintaining the cleanliness of the volunteer camp toilets. Duties include restocking soap and paper supplies, emptying trash bins, brushing the inside of toilet bowls, and sweeping paper and debris from the floors.

This role does not include scrubbing toilets or handling hazardous cleaning tasks. A trained cleaning service will be responsible for all heavy-duty cleaning and sanitation.

In addition to toilet maintenance, this team may assist other teams when needed. The team’s base of operations will be at Basecamp, where scheduled timeslots will be assigned for bathroom checks and cleaning duties.

We try our best, to make sure, that everyone can be on shift with their friends.

Therefore the shift schedule will be published a week before you can choose shifts. Then you and the people you would like to share shifts with, can agree on which shifts you wish. Then you can all choose the same shift packet, when the booking opens around March .

A shift package consists of the time slots for your 4 shifts, and each shift has a duration of 8 hours. The shifts are in the time periods 6.45-15.00, 14.45-23.00 and 22.45-7.00. 

The greatest part of the shift package will be made in pairs, which means that you will probably share all your shifts with the same person.

The shift package will be published on https://roskilde.heap360.com/ in April, where they will be open until the start of june whereafter they will be locked in. It is possible to choose a different shift package between the time frame, just email roskilde@satyr.dk. If you do not choose a shift package before the middle of June, you will automatically be assigned a shift package.

Yes you can change you shift package from the start of April till the middle of June. After this period of time, it will no longer be possible to change a shift package.

Yes you can change your assigned shifts, if you can find another volunteer, whom is willing to switch with you. You can switch freely. Switching can only happen, by you and the volunteer you wish to switch with contact roskilde@satyr.dk.

The switch is only approved, when you receive an answer. Please send requests for shift-switching as fast as possible, so the team leaders have time to approve the switch.

If you cannot show up to a shift it is very important that you contact the team leaders to find a solution. If you do not show up to a planned shift there will be consequences. In the worst case we will confiscate your wristband and you will receive an invoice from Roskilde Festival for 2.400 DKK – we would not like to do this.
